Vitamin C and skincare
Pycnogenol and skincare
Many animals make their own vitamin C, but we humans have to get it through our diet. Smoking inhibits the effects of vitamin C, which means that smokers should take more of it than others.
As an antioxidant, vitamin C helps protect other antioxidants in the body. It inhibits the production of cancer-causing nitrosamines, cuts the risk of many types of cancer, prevents dangerous oxidation of LDL cholesterol, boosts the immune system, and reduces the risk of heart attacks.
Vitamin C has a number of beneficial effects on the body, and not all are due to its antioxidant properties. Among its other effects are that it heals wounds, burns, and bleeding gums, that it accelerates healing after surgery, strengthens the immune system, and helps counteract the formation of nitrosamines (cancer-causing substances).
Because vitamin C helps protein cells hold together, it has a strong life-extending effect.
Vitamin C is one of the most taken supplements and is available in many forms.
