Garlic - an antioxidant powerhouse
Garlic is a powerful antioxidant because it is loaded with super antioxidants. It contains manganese,
selenium, germanium, vitamin A, vitamin C, zinc, calcium, and proteins.
The beneficial effects of garlic have been known for thousands of years. Even the old Egyptian pharaohs
paid their pyramid-building workers with the precious garlic, and they also made sure they were not without
it in the afterlife - preserved garlic has been found in royal tombs.
There are multitudes of examples of old civilizations using garlic as a powerful medical remedy through the ages.
We use garlic mainly as flavouring for food, but not so long ago, it was considered a powerful medicine.
It was even used as a natural antibiotic, and the Soviet army relied so heavily on it that it became known as “Russian penicillin”.
Garlic may in some instances be a strong enough antibiotic to neutralize the bacterium Heliobacter pylori,
which causes ulcers.
The widespread and liberal use of garlic in Spain and Italy may explain why the populations of those
countries have a far lower incidence of hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis).
Let’s take a look at some of garlic’s fine qualities:
It lowers blood pressure
It boosts the immune system radically, enhancing the functions of the immune system cells
It has antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal effects
It lowers and stabilized the blood sugar at a healthy level
It prevents heart disease by encouraging the good HDL cholesterol and limiting the bad LDL cholesterol.
Also, it makes every aspect of blood flow and coagulation work properly
It works against atherosclerosis. Garlic supplements are licensed as drugs against atherosclerosis in Germany
It assists in fat metabolism, helping the body break down and properly process fats.
It prevents cancer because it contains a complex of several antioxidants. It may even reduce the growth of existing cancers
Because it is a powerhouse of antioxidants and important trace compounds, garlic has strong anti-aging effects and may
reverse age-related damage done by free radicals.
Few sources of antioxidants have been as thoroughly studied as garlic, and the results point to one
unanimous conclusion: it is one of the best foods you can eat. However, there is no doubt that eating
raw garlic will leave a strong odour on your breath, which is not always desirable.
Because of this, many prefer to take garlic extract supplements or capsules.
Garlic pills are taste- and odour free and give us a convenient way of putting the marvellous effects
of this plant to good and effective use.
